Island Ford’s Giving Plan: Providence Farm

One of the charities Island Ford's staff is really passionate about is Providence Farm. Providence Farm offers a variety of programs to make anyone feel like they are connected to something bigger than themselves. The farm is picturesque and sets the perfect atmosphere for all of the therapeutic programs offered. They are a "rural community center," and a hub for all community members.

The Providence Therapeutic Farm Program has been been serving the Cowichan Valley since 1979. Operating on a working farm, programs include horticulture therapy, art, woodworking, nutrition, gardening and landscaping, and more. They believe that caring for the land together is therapeutic, and they provide a community to those who have mental health or developmental challenges. Providence Farm is committed to serving the needs, and fostering the talents of those in the Cowichan Valley.

They are hosting a fundraising event called "Dance Under the Stars" Saturday June 24, 2017. Filled with dancing under the stars to good music, the event lasts from 6:00PM - midnight. There will be food, drinks, a pool table and 50/50 draw taking place throughout the night. You can get tickets online, or at the door. The proceeds from this event go towards Providence Farm and helps to make meaningful lives for many disadvantaged community members.

If you are interested in volunteering with this organization they have ongoing opportunities, but right now they are looking for someone to help with gardening (weeding, seeding, transplanting, watering, and harvesting produce), as well as a handyman (help maintain the infrastructure at the farm, carpentry/construction/plumbing/electrical work). A new venture for the organization is the development of their living labyrinth. If you wish to help them create their healing garden, you can email alicia@providence.bc.ca.
